Martial artist Ivan Cole was found dead by police at his apartment in Dallas this weekend with initial reports suggesting that he had accidentally taken his own life in a game of Russian Roulette gone wrong. Cole Was just 25 years old.
Kymberli, Cole’s wife, has set up a GoFundMe page to cover her late husband’s funeral expenses saying she had lost her husband to “gun play” and that it was purely a “bad decision” that had led to this tragedy.
A rather generic statement on the website of the Dallas Police Department simply explains that officers found “Ivan Robert-Earnest Cole deceased” when they arrived and that his death remains classed as unexplained until the autopsy results are revealed.
At least one person doesn’t believe the Russian Roulette story to be true. Fellow MMA fighter An-Twan Williams told CBS he didn’t think Cole would “play with himself like that”.
Cole made his professional MMA debut in April 2012 defeating Gino Escamilla at Dominion Warrior Tri Combat before following this up with a second win this time against Kashiff Solarin at TPFP Premier Fight Series 1. He then fought Evan Martinez at Legacy Fighting Championship 13 where he lost via split decision. Cole’s fourth professional MMA fight was another loss at EFC 3 against Akira Smith. Following this Cole took a three year hiatus before returning to MMA last year to fight on Bellator 135. This fight also ended in a defeat via submission against George Pacurariu.
As well as his wife Kymberli, Ivan Cole also leaves behind a four year old daughter.
2016 has been a bad year for losses in combat sports. This month legendary Boxer Muhammad Ali, and Kimbo Slice, the street fighter turned mixed martial artist both died while earlier in the year Kevin Randleman, former UFC heavyweight champ also died unexpectedly. Last month mixed martial artist Jordan Parsons died after being runover by a car in Florida.
